Beryl var Emerald (Ref: 18.1-239)
Carnaiba Mine, Pindobacu, Campo Formoso, Bahia, Brazil
23mm x 15mm x 9mm
minID: MUN-M8E
A flattened Emerald prism that is doubly terminated (crude at one end), translucent and has a few dark inclusions. From the Camp Formoso zone of Bahia, Brazil, this was in the Hitchings collection and came out over 20 years ago. This zone still produces some small Emeralds but much less often than in the past. On our r visit there last year we did not find a single good specimen to purchase, the mines seem to be minimally active. This is a good example of the style of Emerald from this region, and shows well the typical flattened hexagon form. From: Well-Arranged Molecules
