Aragonite "Cave Pearls" from Austria (Ref: PL24-PEARLS)
Styrian Erzberg, Leoben Dist., Styria, Austria
101mm x 88mm x 26mm
$525
This unusual aragonite specimen from Austria is commonly referred to as Cave Pearls or sometimes Bird's Nest aragonite. These form in caves and mines where a thin layer of white aragonite covers the matrix material and there is a natural indentation where matter can collect. The "pearls" start with something small like a grain of sand and then accumulate aragonite to form these bean-like pebbles. Sometimes the pearls fuse to the floor, and sometimes they are all loose. In this specimen there are over a dozen visible pearls with 4 loose and the remaining fused onto the main structure. Data last checked on 21st May 2025 - specimen may no longer be available
