Aragonite "Cave Pearls" from Austria (Ref: PL24-PEARLS2)
Styrian Erzberg, Leoben Dist., Styria, Austria
100mm x 82mm x 33mm
$450
This unusual aragonite specimen from Austria is commonly referred to as Cave Pearls or sometimes Bird's Nest aragonite. These form in caves and mines where a thin layer of white aragonite covers the matrix material and there is a natural indentation where matter can collect. The "pearls" start with something small like a grain of sand and then accumulate aragonite to form these bean-like pebbles. Sometimes the pearls fuse to the floor, and sometimes they are all loose. In this specimen there are many visible pearls with 3 loose and the remaining fused onto the main structure.Data last checked on 21st Sep 2025Buy now from Greenstone Fine Mineralia
