Pyrite is a mineral species that is very common in variety geologic and mineralogic environments. So it comes a little bit as a surprise that the species is relatively rare compared to many other sites worldwide and considering the mineral wealth in Tsumeb. Finding an excellent specimen such as this one is a pleasant surprise. Its brass-yellow, crystals, some of which are heavily striated, reach sizes of over 1 cm. They are associated with lead-grey, somewhat matt metallic Galena. This unique piece comes from the collection of former Tsumeb mine foreman Peter Döring, who worked in the mine in the 1960s and 1970s.Data last checked on 30th Oct 2025 - specimen may no longer be available
