Quartz (var. Amethyst) on smoky Quartz (Ref: RG1398)
Washington Camp-Duquesne, Santa Cruz Co., Arizona, USA
107mm x 63mm x 42mm
minID: V12-YUG
$275
A sharply-crystallized doubly-terminated cluster of translucent purple Amethyst with darker-purple zoning is hosted on a large (107 x 32 x 29 mm) lightly-smoky, translucent Quartz point, which is included with pale-green Chlorite. The large smoky Quartz is somewhat distorted, and is highly recrystallized, with small clusters of clear Quartz points perched on it. The Amethyst is in perfect condition, with only one very small chip, has nice luster, and consists of many doubly-terminated crystals, intergrown in a parallel orientation. Collected in about 1980, this exceptional specimen is from a small pocket which produced only 3 of these specimens. I have seen much Quartz from at this Arizona locality, but nothing like this piece.Data last checked on 26th May 2022
