crystalised gemmy CARLETONITE, CALCITE (Ref: 22224)

Poudrette quarry, Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Monteregie, Quebec, Canada
49mm x 44mm x 30mm
$930
An outstanding specimen of rich blue colored and gemmy carletonite crystals decorated with calcite from this famous locality - Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, Canada. This specimen comes from the renowned collections of Renato and Adriana Pagano, Italy (with label), and Italo Goria, Italy (with label), which adds notable provenance and value to the piece. Photographs of the specimen have been published twice in The Mineralogical Record: Volume 32, Number 6 (2001), page 492, and Volume 21, Number 4 (1990), pages 301–302, figures 29–30.The carletonite is one of the very rare mineral species unique for the type locality Mont Saint-Hilaire. It occurs only there and none has been found for many decades. Crystals are not often seen and most of the pieces are just cleavages. This specimen shows crystals to 9mm with a glassy luster. The color varies from colorless to rich royal blue. The cubical crystals are from translucent to gemmy. Yellow calcite crystals give a superb contrast and colorfulness. For references see the 1990 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 21, # 4. Some contacts. On acrylic base., World grade quality carletonite!
