One of Tsumeb´s world-famous and signature combinations is Dioptase on Calcite. These combinations possess a distinct, dramatic beauty all their own. A foundation of this wonderful aesthetic is the sheer contrast between the two species. Dioptase, a hydrous copper silicate, is known for its glassy, emerald-green crystals, which can exhibit green flashes under proper lighting. The lustrous crystals shown here range from a single 1.3 cm major crystal, to few crystals in the 6-7 mm range, to several gems in mm-size. The Dioptase crystals are beautifully accentuated by the white Calcite, which also displays its classic orange fluorescence. Indeed, the contrasts in shape and color, as well as the distribution of the Dioptase crystals, make this a beautiful, representative example of this Tsumeb combination.Data last checked on 12th Sep 2025 - specimen may no longer be available
