Struvite (Ref: R207)
St Nikolai church, Hamburg, Germany
10mm x 7mm x 5mm
$180
Complete, well terminated single crystal of Struvite from the Type locality for the species. Struvite is a phosphate mineral commonly found as a product of organic decay and as a constituent of human kidney and bladder stones. This crystal has a possible macabre origin, from MINDAT: 'the source of the decomposing phosphate-rich organic matter under the church which hosted the growth of struvite crystals, with it being variously ascribed to human feces in a medieval sewer, horse manure under a medieval stable, or cadavers in a grave'.Data last checked on 4th Jun 2025 - specimen may no longer be available
