This area in Mexico has been known for many years by collectors to produce a distinctive and very fine amethyst. Workings are believed to have begun in the 1960s, with the 1970s and early 1980s very fruitful for discoveries. Little has been found since. Many of the specimens collected over the years show damage. This current example is in super condition for this locality.
