Apatite (Ref: 7062)

Here we have a superb Apatite-on-matrix specimen from the famous Mexican locale Cerro de Mercado. Matrix Apatites from this locality are extremely difficult to find. The locality has many loose, small crystals in a decomposed matrix, and even the few pieces of matrix we see mostly consist of small crystals scattered throughout this fragile matrix. However, this is a thick, massive, and robust crystal, measuring 1.9 x 1.6 x 1.1 cm, sitting elegantly and prominently on solid rock. It is very impressive and sparkles like a disco ball just without any backlighting. It has a beautiful yellow-green color, unique to these Apatite specimens. It is absolutely flawless and gemmy. I´m fairly certain that mining over the past few decades has yielded fewer than a few dozen good pieces of this caliber amidst the bulk material for which the mine is known. This fine piece comes with a high quality lucite custom base.
