Hessonite & Diopside (Ref: 6344)
Bellecombe | Châtillon | Aosta Valley | Italy
34mm x 23mm x 16mm
Hessonite crystals from the Garnet deposits on the slopes above the town of Bellecombe in the Italian Aoste Valley are known for their color and perfection. What’s special about this Bellecombe specimen is its considerable size: 1.8 cm in diameter. It is perfectly exposed on a Diopside-rich matrix, typical for the region’s alpine metamorphic geology. It has a deep red-brown color, is gemmy-translucent and has an incredibly good vitreous luster. Although a small chip can be seen on the back of the crystal, this is an excellent miniature with excellent balance and aesthetics that is rarely offered on the market. From: Wendel Minerals
