Cuprite (Ref: 5754)
Niederschlema | Schlema | Erzgebirge | Saxony | Germany
52mm x 47mm x 31mm
$374 *
The mines around the town of Schlema (now Bad Schlema) are best known for their magnificent Silver minerals and not do much for good Cuprite specimens. However, this piece is a rare and very outstanding example for this historic deposit where Iron, Copper and Silver mining dates back to the 14th century. The specimen is covered with numerous, approximately 3 mm tall, tightly intergrown cuboctahedral Cuprite crystals on typical matrix. The color of the sharp crystals is a distinctly reddish black-gray with a nice adamantine luster. A must-have specimen from a mining region that in the late 1950s turned out to host the biggest Uranium deposit in Europe.Data last checked on 30th Apr 2025
