Over the years the pegmatites of Madagascar have produced some excellent Tourmaline specimens and this 6 cm tall Rubellite is no exception: A vivid crimson red color, well developed, triangular terminal face and excellent striation on the prism faces parallel to the c-axis. The crystal is also wonderfully gemmy translucent (lights up like a lantern when backlit!), and has a high vitreous luster. According to my sources, ´the pegmatites that provide these specimens are mined out´ and therefore it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain such exceptional material.
