Albite ( v. Cleavlandite ) with Elbaite, Quartz and Lepidolite

Stewart Mine, Pala District, San Diego County, California, USA
minID: 9DY-YTC
119mm x 87mm x 66mm
$425
The Stewart Mine is known for its quality Cleavlandite, an Albite variety, and this specimen has it. In daylight the fine Cleavlandite blades have a distinct bluish color. A large, nicely-striated, lustrous dark-blue bicolor Elbaite with a palest pink cap, measuring 66 x 47 mm provides a great accent. Lavender Lepidolite, another mineral the Stewart Mine is famous for, is nested in the Cleavlandite blades, as are several small Elbaite crystals. Several flattened tabular Quartz crystals to 63 x 23 mm, one with a distinct bend in it, and another with a nice Montmorillonite inclusion, provide the final touch to this neat specimen. Collected in 2002 by Blue Sheppard, owner of the Stewart Mine. Only peripheral damage where it was removed.
