Audrey Lynne Mine, California, Little Cahuilla Mountain, Cahuilla District, Riverside County, USA
A gemmy etched, goshenite has a beautiful hexagonal termination and a little surprise at the top. A small but, perfect hexagonal mini hillock rises above the flat surface of the termination. These features are rare and typically form during crystallization when one area of the crystal captures substrate faster than the other areas. The rest of the crystal is gemmy with light dissolution features as pretty textures on its prism surfaces. It is from a historic California Mine that accessed a small beryl pegmatite. This piece holds a faint tinge of blue or gray color, but to my eye it is best described as goshenite. Ex Bill Larson collection.
