Turt Mine (Ghezuri Mine), Turt, Negresti,Oas, Oas Mts, Satu Mare, Satu Mare Co., Romania
45 x 85 x 85mm
Siderite epimorphs after calcite and dolomite from Romania's Turt mine are well-known for the unique crystal form and aesthetic composition. This is a fine large example featuring a boxy ~6 cm. rhombohedral dolomite crystal with has been overgrown by siderite, and then dissolved, leaving a hollow siderite epimorph. Minor iron oxides and calcite add some contrast. A fine Eastern European classic from the Proctor Family Trust Collection.
