N'Chwaning mines, Kalahari Manganese Fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa
Rhodochrosite crystals from the major 1978-79 finds at the N'Chwaning Mines South Africa's Kalahari District are regarded by many collectors as the world's best. With their deep saturated cherry-red color, bright luster, and attractive scalenohedronal form, it is easy to see why. This is a very fine 4 cm single crystal from the noted collection of Uli Bahmann, with great color and nice classic form. An increasingly-scarce classic.
