Frizington, West Cumberland Iron Field, North and Western Region (Cumberland), Cumbria, England
A true classic from Frizington ! This specimen is a rarely seen gem quality Barite crystal group comprising very sharp, thick, lustrous, fine quality, "spear"-shaped blades with a fine pale blue color and slight internal phantoms. The piece is associated with minor Dolomite at the base. Overall, the specimen is in fantastic shape, and the one crystal on the end is nearly 100% water-clear. This piece was almost certainly mined in the late 1800's, when many of the best specimens were found. English Barites are certainly among the most classic of all European minerals, and specimens of this size and quality are not nearly as available on the market as they were years ago. A very well-priced small cabinet of this 100 year old material !
