Metatyuyamunite with Hummerite and Coffinite (Ref: 21.1-042)
Uravan belt, Montrose, Colorado, United States
47mm x 38mm x 16mm
minID: Q33-QWT
A colorful mix of rare minerals that are very well-crystalized. The Metatyuyamunite is in well-defined crystals mostly of yellow hues and the Hummerite (a rare Vanadium specie) is the more orange color. Coffinite is identified as well and there is at least one other specie present as bright green platelike crystals. This piece was in the Ruth and Andy Palmer rare species collection (and later Hladysz) which was used as a research tool by the late Dr. Joe Manderino. This area is the type locale for Hummerite, the name Uravan is formed from the element names Uranium and Vanadium. From: Well-Arranged Molecules
