A wonderful gem quality Tourmaline crystal from the famous Cruzeiro Mine. This specimen was purchased by my father in Brazil in 1974, and remained in our collections for over 35 years. The piece is completely unrepaired and shows a beautiful bicolor appearance with a WATER-CLEAR, vibrant grass green to slightly blue-green hue at the termination and upper portion of the crystal, which grades into a lovely gemmy pink color, that is actually surrounded by a thin green “rind” creating the well known and desirable “Watermelon Tourmaline” effect. To find Tourmalines with such richly colored, TRANSPARENT sections in the crystals is quite rare, and this is not a thin “pencil” crystal, as it has a bit of girth to it. The modifying pyramidal faces surrounding the termination give the piece a lot of character, and it stands out from many others I have seen from this mine. Overall the piece is damage free, save the bottom of the crystal where it detached from the pocket wall. A great older Brazilian Tourmaline crystal, the likes of which are not commonly seen on today’s market.
