A classic and highly displayable specimen of Rhodochrosite from the famous Uchucchacua Mine in Peru. It could be said that this locality has produced the best Rhodochrosite specimens from South America. There are only a few localities in the world that produce scalenohedral crystals like this. Admittedly, the piece is not 100% perfect, and is priced accordingly, but the aesthetic appeal and contrast of the gemmy, red scalenohedra set against the dark brown-black manganese oxide matrix makes for such a beautiful specimen. The crystals are nearly gem quality in areas, along with being rather sharp. The rough spots plus a few cleaved crystals is honestly typical for the mine. If the piece were complete undamaged, it would be miraculous, and the price would be dramatically higher. An affordable and attractive small “hand sized” piece from this world-famous locality.
