El Refugio Mine, Choix, Mun. de Choix, Sinaloa, Mexico
A wonderful cadmian smithsonite from the El Refugio Mine, Choix, Sinoloa, Mexico! The yellow smithsonite from Choix is caused by the presence of cadmium in the crystal lattice and is quite rare. They are highly sought after by collectors and are among my favorite smithsonite specimens. This piece has a well-distributed growth of vibrant yellow-orange, cadmian smithsonite over a previous, colorless generation. The contrast of color in the two smithsonite generations adds good visual balance to the specimen. No significant damage.
