Rhodochrosite (Ref: 7181)

Capillitas | Andalgalá Department | Catamarca Province | Argentina
129mm x 102mm x 88mm
$12830 *
This is an exciting and striking rare specimen with robust yet elegant, tightly intergrown stalactites of freestanding Rhodochrosite from this important deposit! Often one sees individual fingers or multiple stalactites intergrown into a solid mass, but rarely does one see something as aesthetic and dramatic as what we have here, a three-dimensional specimen with stunning, intense salmon-red color. As you can see, both sides are partially coated with pale pink to salmon-colored crystals, and the display face, through the broken stalactites, displays the much-sought radial veining combined with the best color of the deposit. From the Capillitas mining district in Catamarca, Argentina. The sawn and slightly polished base of the specimen shows beautiful color-banded zones of the stalactite structure with crystalline development towards the edges. Most of the Rhodochrosite specimens in this mining district come from the Capillitas vein, the most important carbonate mineralization in the region. This is an outstanding large cabinet specimen of stunning beauty and color. Please do not slice, as this would destroy the mineralogical character and value. The piece comes with a high-quality custom lucite base. 1595 grams
