A wonderful specimen of Spessartine-on-Smoky Quartz from the well-known Wushan Spessartine Mine, Tongbei, China. An imposing, dark brown, 3 cm, largely encased Smoky Quartz ´guardian´ protects the upright matrix plate, which is covered with gem-like and lustrous, multifaced, 0.8 cm measuring orange-brown Spessartine (Garnet).Smaller Smoky Quartzes poking out are a nice accent. The termination of the Smoky Quartz is Spessartine-free. A beautiful specimen from older finds from the early 2000s.Data last checked on 8th Jan 2026
