crystalised CARLETONITE, CALCITE (Ref: 21980)

An outstanding specimen of rich blue to purple colored carletonite crystals decorated with calcite from this famous locality - Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, Canada. The carletonite is one of the very rare mineral species unique for the type locality Mont Saint-Hilaire. It occurs only there and none has been found for many decades. Crystals are not often seen and most of the pieces are just cleavages. This specimen shows many crystals to 11mm with a glassy luster. The color varies from colorless to purple and rich royal blue. The sharp cubical crystals are from translucent to gemmy. Yellow calcite crystals give a superb contrast and colorfulness. For references see the 1990 issue of The Mineralogical Record vol. 21, # 4.
