Bromargyrite and Chlorargyrite with Barite and Beaverite (Ref: AX-35-054-(A43))
Horn Silver Mine, Frisco, Utah, United States
68mm x 54mm x 46mm
A complex historic specimen from the Wallace Gould Levison Collection with an 1880's vintage. This is mostly a Barite block with tiny zones of Silver Chlorides and a few patchy areas of yellow Beaverite. This mine is the type locality for Beaverite, it is not mentioned on the old Levison label as the specie had yet to be discovered (it was named in 1911). The specimen bears the handwritten label of Levison and he notes it was presented by the mining company to him. In that era it was common for specimens to be distributed to important collectors and scientists at no cost by mining companies. The specimen is a remarkable historic piece, from a famed collection and early Western US Silver mining. Interesting to see the locality is listed as Nevada but in current geography this mine is now in Utah. From: Well-Arranged Molecules
