Featuring stacks of slightly separated poker-chip Calcites, this piece from the now famous Huanggang complex of mines in Inner Mongolia is very alluring. The prominent group consists of at least a dozen, pale pink, thin, bladed, almost circular Calcite crystals stacked and each separated by a millimeter or two for artistic effect. The other parallel Calcite groups consist of stacks of three to eight individual crystals and each group is oriented at a modest angle to the large group for dramatic effect. The Calcites range in size from 1 to 3.4 cm across, and they all display a satin luster and fluoresce red-orange under ultraviolet light. This piece is in excellent condition with only trace chipping along the periphery in a couple of places. Faint pink color is due to trace amounts of manganese, which is why it fluoresces so nicely as well.
