Legrandite is one of those Holy Grails of beautiful rare mineral species. This is a very rare legrandite from the TYPE LOCALITY for the species: This is NOT Ojuela as most people think, but a small earlier find in Nuevo Leon: a completely different location and geology! Here we have rich, huge crystals for the locale, that look like curving plates or mushrooms on the matrix. These crystals are huge for the locality, and this is an important miniature from old finds. Accoridn gto Mindat, it was named in 1932 by Julien Drugman and Max H. Hey in honor of Mr. LeGrand, a Belgium mining engineer and mineral collector who collected the first specimens (presumably in the early 1900s in Mexico).
