This is a very fine, aesthetic, and important thumbnail of the rare species found in this quality only once, in the mine. A rare iron arsenate, Schneiderhöhnite thumbnails and miniatures from Tsumeb (the TYPE LOCALITY) have proven to be best of species, by far. This cluster of several large, sub-metallic, triclinic Schneiderhohnite crystals, to 9 mm, displays very well atop the matrix. Adjusting the light allows you to really appreciate just how jet-black and lustrous the crystals are, and it is hard to find quality crystals of this size with such good aesthetics. This is yet another noteworthy specimen from Tsumeb's germanium level in the 1980s, which featured a host of amazing mineral species in relatively large crystals that you will never see from anywhere else. This is a killer specimen for the species, no matter what size you are talking about. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher - 38175.
