Pink apophyllite from China is a modern classic, but so few of any quality were known to have come out. A literal perfect gem of an apophyllite, from the Chinese miniatures collection of Steve Smale. I regard it as the finest miniature sized example of this material I know of for the stark geometry and quality that is so obvious. He purchased this when the first pocket of this material was hit in the early 2000s (circa 2003), and has kept it ever since. These apophyllites are so different from any other examples of the species from anywhere else in the world. The mine is still producing today and, a few years ago, gave us a pocket of large crystals to 15 cm in size — but not this gemmy or perfect in symmetry.
