Manaoshan means Agate Mountain in Chinese, but it is filled with Fluorite and Calcite, riddled with mining tunnels old and new that go back seemingly 100 years. We have been underground there multiple times and Rob went down in this green fluorite tunnel before it was collected over the following 2 years (2014-2016 or so). Each zone of this particular tunnel, about 1 mile into an ancient handworked artisanal tunnel and over a scary deep trench, featured green Fluorite of a different style and color. The look of the crystals was the same from pocket to pocket though with dramatic cubes and stepped modifications. On this colorful piece dominated mint green, you can see sharp blue phantoms within the gemmy cube faces as highlights of this beautiful specimen. The largest cuboctahedral fluorite crystal measures 6 cm across. This lovely cabinet piece is from a unique pocket from this productive mine! It came out in late 2016 or so, although previous finds never showed such color centers and were normally all green. Later finds were also different. These were found in one long natural tunnel, now exhausted. The piece is actually complete all around, as it sheared off its matrix wall during growth and the back rehealed completely with sparkling druse of microcrystalline Fluorite. We believe these will become a modern classic from China.
