This is a broad, very reflective, silver-black, small cabinet sized Hematite plate that is nearly three inches across from the old iron and topaz district in Ouro Preto, Brazil. This is a non-Alpine type occurrence for these lovely Hematites and this one is a very good example for the locality. This small cabinet piece consists of one prominent, fanned, lamellar Hematite group that makes up much of the piece with two other subordinate hexagonal-shaped, plates in near-parallel growth on the face of the larger crystal. These two somewhat smaller groups measure two and half and nearly two inches across, respectively. This attractive piece has only very trivial edge wear at the periphery and is nearly perfect. It is dramatic and of as tyle uniquely Brazilian - but which we have not seen in decades. Excellent for the locality. Recovered in late 2023. This is a style of hematite crystallization more often associated with "Alpine Type" deposits such as the high mountains of Switzerland or Pakistan, and super rare from Brazil or in any kind of large size!
