Benitoite is of course the state gem of California, a gorgeous gemstone in its own right aside from being a fascinating minerals specimen for a truly bizarre combination of chemistry (titanium-containing!) and crystal shape (roughly triangular!). This superb large miniature features a HUGE benitoite crystal to 3.75 cm on edge, at or among the top range of known examples of this species in fine quality. It has an intense, color that is at the top of the color spectrum for the species; and taken together the color and size make it truly important. The balance and aesthetics of the matrix arrangement, however, makes it beautiful. This is a significant addition to any collection and has been in Dr Pohl's own collection for nearly 40 years. This is a chance to own a literally world class example of an important and colorful gem species from a nearly extinct locality - at a level beyond what is normally on the market. Please note we show a variety of photos, with the intense blue translucence varied depending on strength of backlighting. Dr. Erika Pohl-Ströher - 71657
