Beryl - Pakistan

Beryl from Pakistan is one of or Top 100 Minerals for collectors.

Beryl, especially aquamarine, is what probably comes first to mind when thinking about minerals from Pakistan. The region has over the last 30 years been a very prolific producer of outstanding aquamarine, morganite and goshenite crystals.

Perhaps among the best known localities is the mountain Chumar Bakhoor, above the village of Nagar, from which have come distinctive specimens featuring a muscovite matrix and the common association of fluorite and fluorapatite.

Similar material is found at Inna Nala, above the village of Fiqhar, and much if the material from both of these localities is simply labeled as “Hunza Valley” or “Nagar”. Also in the Gilgit District, Haramosh-Dassu (near the village of Sassi and not to be confused with “Dasu”, near Tormiq, and the Dassu of the Braldu Valley) is a source for deep blue aquamarine.

The Shigar, Braldu, and Basha Valleys in the Skardu District have produced some outstanding specimens as single crystals---including gem quality examples exceeding 50 cm in length---and as superb matrix pieces commonly associated with muscovite, albite, quartz, fluorite, fluorapatite, and topaz.
